Fairfield Eagles Defeat Mildred 5 to 1
The Fairfield Eagles earned a 5 to 1 win over Mildred on Thursday during the Blooming Grove Tournament behind a dominant performance from Gustavo Aguilera.
Aguilera struck out 11 batters over five innings, allowing just one hit and one run while walking one. Landon Cockerell added a scoreless inning in relief to secure the win.
Mildred scored first on a passed ball in the opening inning, but Fairfield quickly answered with four runs in the bottom half. Jackson Murphy delivered a two run single, while Braxton Burns and Hudson Wendt each drove in a run to give the Eagles a 4 to 1 lead.
The Eagles added another run in the third inning when Murphy singled to the right side of the infield to extend the lead to 5 to 1.
Fairfield finished with nine hits. Murphy led the offense with three RBIs and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Landon Bostic, Zechariah Smith, Murphy, and Aguilera each collected two hits.
The Eagles continue tournament play Friday with matchups against Eustace at 12 PM and Blooming Grove at 2 PM.
