The Fairfield Eagles earned a dramatic 5 to 4 walk off victory over Eustace on Friday during tournament play.
Trailing 4 to 3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jackson Murphy delivered the game winning hit with a single that drove in two runs to seal the Eagles win.
Eustace scored first in the opening inning, but Fairfield responded quickly when Logan Williams singled to bring in two runs and give the Eagles a 2 to 1 lead. The game remained tight throughout, with Eustace taking a 4 to 2 advantage in the fourth before Fairfield battled back late.
Landon Cockerell started on the mound and struck out eight over six innings, allowing four runs with none earned. Murphy earned the win in relief with a scoreless inning.
The Eagles collected 10 hits in the game. Zechariah Smith, Cockerell, and Murphy each had two hits. Murphy and Williams both finished with two RBIs, and Landon Bostic added speed on the bases with two stolen bases as Fairfield totaled four steals.
The Eagles continue tournament play Friday afternoon against Blooming Grove.
