The Fairfield Lady Eagles opened district play with a strong performance Tuesday night, defeating Westwood 28-1.

Fairfield jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Cariss Capps doubled to drive in a run, Madison High was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score another, and a fielder’s choice by Hadlie Morrison brought in a run. Riley Philpott followed with a two run single, and an error allowed two more runs to score.

The Lady Eagles added 11 runs in the second inning. Haylee Allen singled to bring in a run, an error scored two more, and Payton Mims doubled to drive in two. Allen later drew a walk with the bases loaded to score another run, Evelyn Fultz singled to add two more, Morrison walked to bring in a run, and Philpott was hit by a pitch to force in another.

Fairfield continued the offensive surge in the third inning, adding 10 more runs. Cadence Webster singled to score a run, Allen hit a two run home run to left field, Morrison added a two run single, and Philpott hit a two run home run. Webster later delivered another two run single, and the Lady Eagles also added a run on a steal of home.

Allen earned the win in the circle for Fairfield. She allowed two hits and one run over three innings while striking out six and issuing no walks.

The Lady Eagles finished the game with 13 hits. Philpott led Fairfield with four RBIs from the ninth spot in the lineup and went 2 for 2 at the plate. Fultz, Morrison, and Webster each recorded multiple hits, while Kaylie Ridge drew two walks.

Fairfield showed patience at the plate with nine walks and was aggressive on the base paths with six stolen bases, including two by Capps. The Lady Eagles also played error free defense, with Webster recording six defensive chances.

Fairfield will continue district play in their next scheduled matchup.
