The Fairfield Eagles came through when it mattered most Tuesday night, earning a 5-4 walk off win over Elkhart in a game that went down to the final at bat.
With the score tied in the bottom of the seventh, Kohl Collins sparked the rally with a double that drove in two runs. Moments later, Landon Bostic sealed the win with a sacrifice bunt that brought home the game winning run and sent the Eagles home with the victory.
Elkhart took an early lead in the second inning, using a double and an Eagle error to go up 3-0. Fairfield stayed within reach and continued to battle at the plate, setting up the dramatic finish in the final inning.
Landon Cockerell led the way on the mound, pitching a complete game and earning the win. He allowed six hits and four runs, only three earned, while striking out seven and walking two.
Collins led Fairfield with two runs batted in, while Bostic, Cockerell, Connor Colvert, and Collins each recorded a hit. The Eagles showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks, with Cockerell, Collen Loviette, and Jackson Murphy each picking up two. Murphy also added two stolen bases as Fairfield totaled five steals on the night.
