Fairfield Eagles Fall to Buffalo in District Matchup

The Fairfield Eagles dropped a 5-1 decision to Buffalo on Tuesday.

Fairfield struck first in the opening inning. Connor Colvert brought home a run on a groundout to give the Eagles an early lead. Buffalo answered in the second inning, using a pair of RBI plays to move in front, and extended the lead in the third with a key extra base hit.

Landon Cockerell took the mound for Fairfield and worked into the fourth inning. He allowed four runs on four hits while striking out one. Buffalo’s starter Jorge Perez went the distance, limiting the Eagles to three hits and one unearned run over seven innings.

Cockerell, Zechariah Smith, and Gustavo Aguilera each recorded a hit for Fairfield. Colvert led the team with one RBI. Landon Bostic added speed on the bases with two stolen bases, and the Eagles were aggressive overall with four steals in the game.

Defensively, Fairfield played a clean game without an error. Landon Washington led the team with six defensive plays.

Buffalo was led offensively by Hunter Gore, who drove in three runs, and the Bison showed patience at the plate with seven walks on the night.

Fairfield will look to bounce back Friday as they travel to Elkhart.
