The Fairfield Eagles came up just short Friday night, falling to Elkhart 4 to 3 on the final play of the game.

Elkhart scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win, but Fairfield stayed competitive throughout and finished with seven hits compared to Elkhart’s four.

The Eagles got on the board in the fourth inning after an error brought in the first run. Elkhart answered in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2 to 1 lead.

Fairfield responded late. In the top of the seventh, Kohl Collins delivered a big moment with a two run home run to left field, giving the Eagles a 3 to 2 lead heading into the final inning.

Connor Colvert led Fairfield at the plate with two hits, while Collins drove in two runs.

On the mound, Colvert started and struck out four. Landon Cockerell recorded six strikeouts in relief.

Fairfield will be back at home Tuesday as they host Groesbeck.
